Dental Implants
Dental implants offer a smile that looks and feels very natural. Surgically placed below the gums over a series of appointments, implants fuse to the jawbone and serve as a base for individual replacement teeth, bridges or a denture.
Dental implants offer stability because they fuse to your bone. Integration of the dental implants into your jaw also helps your replacement teeth feel more natural and some people also find the secure fit more comfortable than conventional substitutes.

Naturally, the effects of tooth loss vary and depend on what have been lost. Losing a crown means losing the visible part of your tooth and this may affect your confidence. However, if you lose the root as well, you have lost the unseen part of your tooth and although this may not affect you aesthetically, it is undoubtedly the most important part of the tooth. The root anchors the tooth to your jawbone, acting as a foundation for the crown. Without the root, the bone around the missing tooth will gradually recede causing the remaining teeth to shift. If this is allowed to continue chewing will become more and more difficult.
For those who have lost all their teeth in an upper or lower jaw, the long-term problems are even greater. The bone shrinks after tooth loss. This causes the nerves to become exposed and the dentures will lack support. Loose fitting dentures can cause further problems and lead to sore gum tissue and additional pain.

What are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is made of titanium and shaped like a screw, which will be placed into the jawbone and serves as a secure root for the new tooth. Once the dental implant is in place, several different types of dental restorations, such as crowns, bridges or dentures, can be attached. This is a good option that allows you to replace missing teeth with ones that look, feel, and perform like your own natural teeth. During the first step of this procedure, a doctor skilled in implant dentistry surgically places a titanium screw or post in the patient?s jaw. After the gums have healed around the embedded post, a replacement tooth is attached to the top of it. Dental implants use a high-tech surgical procedure to fuse one or more titanium cylinders to the jawbone. Dental implants can last a lifetime, and because the tooth is placed permanently into the bone, they feel much like natural teeth

Dental Implants ? Benefits and Possible Complications

Dental implants are a vast improvement over conventional dentures. They?re more stable and user-friendly than many other teeth replacement options, and because the posts that secure dental implants in place are integrated into the jaw, they also help prevent bone loss and gum recession (because the pressure of chewing on the implant?s crown stimulates the underlying bone and prevents it from deteriorating from disuse). However, some medical circumstances ? including radiation therapy in the mouth area, and diseases such as diabetes ? lower the success rate for implant dentistry. For that reason, patients must undergo a rigorous screening process before they may proceed with implant dentistry.

What Dental implants can help?

Naturally, there are many benefits of dental implants. The benefits of implant treatment include improved appearance and self-esteem as well the enhanced ability to chew and enjoy your food, and often protection of your remaining teeth and jawbone.

- Improve your smile
- Eat the foods you enjoy
- Restore chewing for easy digestion
- Speak with greater ease
- Restore your facial structure
- Preserve surrounding bone (replace tooth root)
- Enjoy an active lifestyle
- Oral care same as a natural tooth

Dental Implant Placement

Implant dentistry is a comprehensive tooth replacement process rather than a quick fix. Once a dental implant has been placed during oral surgery, the bone is given time to grow and fuse around the implant base.

There are several situations where dental implants may be considered.

(1) Single tooth Implant
(2) Multiple teeth Implant
(3) All teeth Implant

Dental Crowns

For tooth that are badly damaged, dental crown can be an effective treatment option. The dental crown procedure utilizes tooth-shaped coverings made of metal, ceramic, or porcelain to improve the appearance, restore the strength and eliminate the discomfort. In addition, dental crown may be used to anchor a dental bridge or to cap a dental implant post.

Benefits of Dental Bridges

• Restores your smile
• Prevents remaining teeth from drifting out of position
• Restores your ability to properly chew and speak
• Helps preserve the natural function and position of the teeth
• Maintains the shape of your face

Benefits of Dental Crowns

• Restore your beautiful smile
• Covers discolored and irregularities in teeth in improving cosmetic appearance
• Protects severely damaged tooth or tooth weakened by decay, fracture, large fillings or root canal therapy from fracturing. Teeth with large fillings tend to "flex more" forcing the tooth apart possibly causing stress fractures
• Holds together cracked or weaken teeth and seal the tooth from decay
• Helps preserve the natural function and position of the teeth
• Restores tooth with large decay, cavities or filings
• Supports the replacement teeth in a bridge
• Restores and maintains natural bite
• Covers a dental implant

Types of Dental Crown

Dental crowns are made of metal, ceramic, porcelain fused to metal or composite/polymer. The type of crown utilized during your dental crown procedure will depend on your unique needs and goals, as well as the recommendation of your dentist.

All Porcelain Crown
All ceramic crown is made of porcelain or dental ceramic materials. They create an extremely natural-looking appearance and are typically used on front teeth. The tooth-colored ceramic material is translucent, like the enamel of your natural teeth, and size and shade can be carefully matched to complement the rest of your smile. All porcelain crowns will make your new tooth both strong and beautiful. This tissue friendly porcelain crown recreates the strength and natural beauty of your tooth. Due to the strength in the modified core material, all porcelain crowns are suitable for prosthetic reconstructions anywhere in the mouth. In addition, more and more patients are asking for constructions made of materials not containing metal or other alloys. All porcelain crowns are made of a biocompatible material which minimizes the risk of allergic reactions.

Porcelain fused to metal Crown

Porcelain fused to metal dental crown is a hybrid between all-metal crown and all porcelain crown. When being manufactured, our dental technicians will make a shell of metal (substructure) that is custom fitted for your affected tooth. A veneer of porcelain is then fused over this metal, giving the crown a white tooth-like appearance. Porcelain fused to metal crowns has the advantages of having a nearly natural appearance from the porcelain, and the strength and stability provided by the underlying metal. Porcelain fused to metal dental crowns is stronger than the all porcelain crowns but are more prone to fracture than an all-

metal dental crown.
Metal Crown Although their metallic color makes them a poor choice for highly visible teeth, dental crowns made of metal can be an ideal option for repairing decayed or damaged back teeth. They are extremely durable and can be applied with less removal of the natural tooth than all porcelain or ceramic crowns. Metal crowns may consist of various materials, including gold alloy, palladium, nickel alloy, or chromium alloy.

Dental Bridge
A dental bridge is made up of 2-3 or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap and a replacement in between. Natural teeth, dental implant can be used to support the bridge. Whether you are looking for a temporary or permanent tooth loss solution, there is a dental bridge ideally suited for your needs.

Achieving a natural looking and realistic smile after tooth loss is possible with bridges. Dental bridges are one method used by dentists to fill a missing tooth (or teeth). Depending on the dental bridge type you choose, the procedure and cost will vary. If you have questions about dental bridges, please read on for more dental bridge work info.

What is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is made up of 2-3 or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap and a false tooth in between. Natural teeth or implants can be used to support the bridge. The dental bridge type you choose will depend on the condition of your smile, your cost goals, and the cosmetic results you desire.
Types of Dental Bridges
There are two types of dental bridges:

Traditional Bridge

This type of dental bridge work consists of two crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap, with a false tooth in between. Traditional bridges are the most commonly used type of bridge and are made of all ceramic/porcelain or porcelain fused to metal (PFM). If there are no surrounding teeth to support the crowns, implants can be used to fix the bridge in place.

Maryland Bonded Bridge

This type of dental bridge is made up of ceramic/porcelain teeth supported by a metal framework. The bonded bridge is generally lower in cost than other types of bridges and is the most simple to apply.
Dental Bonding
Dental bonding , also known as composite or tooth bonding, is an excellent way to fix cosmetic and structural imperfections in the teeth. Dental bonding can repair cracked, chipped, and discolored teeth as well as replace silver amalgam fillings. Cosmetic bonding can also repair misaligned teeth, providing a straighter, more uniform smile.

Advantages:

- Dental bonding provides a natural white and beautiful teeth appearance. It can repair chipped or broken tooth and lengthen worn down tooth.
- Dental bonding brightens your smile and improves your self-esteem
- Dental bonding offer a conservative approach to changing a tooth's color and shape.

The Tooth Bonding Procedure

To begin the teeth bonding procedure, the dentist selects a composite resin ( dental bonding material) that matches the natural shade of your teeth. The dentist then roughens the existing tooth so the resin can adhere properly. Next, the composite resin is carefully applied to the tooth, shaped, and smoothed to achieve the desired look. It is then quickly hardened via a high intensity light. Lastly, the bonded tooth is buffed and polished so it has the same appearance as the surrounding teeth.
Teeth bonding can usually be completed in one office visit, depending on the extent of repair needed. Even if treatment needs to be performed over two or more visits, you will be pleased to notice a significant difference in your smile after the first treatment. A cosmetic dentist can work out an individual plan for your dental bonding needs after a consultation and initial dental examination.

Benefits of Cosmetic Bonding

Tooth bonding offers several benefits for patients. It is quick, affordable, relatively painless, and long lasting. Dental bonding is also a great alternative to more extensive cosmetic dentistry treatment with porcelain veneers, dental bridges, and dental crowns. Additionally, the composite resin used in a cosmetic bonding procedure is very flexible, expanding and contracting with the natural tooth to prevent cracks and tooth loss. Dental bonding is an excellent option for individuals looking to repair imperfections in their smile.

Care for Dental bonding

It requires the same regular and consistent home and professional dental care as your natural teeth.
1. Brush after eating and before bedtime around the tooth with a soft toothbrush, especially where the bonding meets the gum line.
2. Floss at least once to twice a day. Use the proxy brush or floss threader to remove plaque under and around these areas to maintain good oral hygiene.
3. Rinse with fluoride rinse before bed. Do not swallow any of the rinse and do not eat or drink anything for 30 minutes.
4. Be careful about chewing toffees, gum, grainy rolls and tough food in this area.
5. See your dentist for regular professional check-ups and cleanings

Patients tend to put off dental visits for a variety of reasons, but one of the most common sources of frustration is the sheer multitude of dental treatment options available and the mystery that surrounds many of these new techniques and treatments
Unattractive Smile – When teeth are too short or long, stained, chipped, misaligned, or overcrowded, a dentist can combine multiple cosmetic dentistry treatments to transform the smile, or the patient can invest in porcelain veneers. Veneers can be placed over the teeth to mask virtually any cosmetic problems.
Discolored, Stained, or Dull Teeth – Stubborn stains from coffee, tea, and cigarettes can be difficult to remove with brushing alone. Teeth whitening (in-office or take home) can help eliminate these more superficial stains and also address staining caused by aging or prescription medication use, such as tetracycline stains.
Chips and Minor Gaps – Many patients are troubled by minor cosmetic issues with their smile, including jagged or chipped teeth and noticeable gaps between teeth. Dental bondingis an ideal solution for these minor imperfections. With a tooth-colored bonding material, your dentist can mask these imperfections in just minutes.

Sedation Dentistry
Sedation dentistry is a term that refers to the use of anesthesia during treatment to put patients into a relaxed state, almost like sleep. Sedation dentistry is often used during procedures that require an extensive amount of time in the treatment chair, and sedation is ideal for patients who exhibit dental phobia or have difficulty controlling their movements (this includes children). While sedation dentistry implies that patients are unconscious, this is usually not the case. Some forms of sedation dentistry simply alleviate anxiety or put patients in a sleep-like state, so that little is felt or remembered from the dentistry procedure.
Anti-anxiety agents, such as nitrous oxide, or sedatives may help you relax during dental visits and often may be used along with local anesthetics. Dentists also can use these agents to induce "conscious sedation," in which the patient achieves a relaxed state during treatment but can respond to speech or touch. Sedatives can be administered before, during or after dental procedures by mouth, inhalation or injection. More complex treatments may require drugs that can induce "deep sedation," causing a loss of feeling and reducing consciousness in order to relieve both pain and anxiety. On occasion, patients undergo "general anesthesia," in which drugs cause a temporary loss of consciousness. Deep sedation and general anesthesia may be recommended in certain procedures for children or others who have severe anxiety or who have difficulty controlling their movements.

Sedation Dentistry Information

There are different types and degrees of dental sedation; the sedation dentistry technique recommended by your dentist will depend upon the treatment being performed and/or the degree of your dental anxiety. Your dentist will be able to tell you if you are a candidate for moderate sedation with oral sedatives or nitrous oxide, or deeper sedation with intravenous drugs.

Sedation Dentistry Candidates

Candidates for sedation dentistry include patients with a fear of needles or other dental anxiety, as well as individuals who require complex treatment and would like their treatment performed during a single, pain-free visit.

Dental Anxiety

Some patients (including children) have a natural fear of the dentist, while others have had a traumatic dental experience in their past that has made them reluctant to seek treatment again. Many patients find their anxiety is eased when they undergo procedures while in a sleep-like state.

Dental Sedation Methods

Several medications are available to help create more relaxed, comfortable dental visits. Some drugs control pain, some help you relax, and others put you into a deep sleep during dental treatment. You and your dentist can discuss a number of factors when deciding which drugs to use for your treatment: the type of procedure, your overall health, history of allergies and your anxiety level are considered when determining which approach is best for your particular case. Working together you and your dentist can choose the most appropriate steps to make your dental visit as comfortable as possible.

Many patients assume sedation dentistry will put them to sleep; however, sedation dentistry techniques that can be utilized to achieve varying degrees of relaxation. Learn more about sedation dentistry methods.

  • Oral Sedatives

Oral sedative medications such as diazepam can be given to a patient the night before a dentistry procedure or 30 minutes to an hour before the dental appointment, depending on the severity of the anxiety. Oral sedatives do not provide pain relief, so an injection of local anesthetic will also be administered.

  • Intravenous or IV Sedation

Like oral sedatives, intravenous (IV) sedation does not provide pain relief, so an injection of local anesthetic will also be administered in conjunction with this method of dental sedation.

  • Nitrous Oxide Sedation or Gas Sedation

In one form of conscious inhalation sedation, nitrous oxide gas (also known as laughing gas) is used to induce a state of relaxation. A local anesthetic will be administered in combination with nitrous oxide sedation to eliminate pain.

  • General Anesthesia

This method of dental sedation refers to the use of anesthetic to render the patient unconscious. Unlike other sedation methods, the patient will be completely unaware of his or her surroundings, making the use of local anesthetic unnecessary.
